Have you ever felt overwhelmed by all of the environmentally responsible choices that are out there? Free-range chicken? Organic vegetables, hormone free meat, cosmetics that haven’t been tested on animals, fair-trade coffee, chocolate and more…the choices go on and on. Today, as I was shopping, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all. I was shopping at one of my favorite local produce stores, and I realized that yes, while they might have good prices, they shrink wrap tons of their veggies in plastic wrap and styrofoam trays. Ugh! However, on the bright side, they have started selling reusable bags at their cash registers. Whether or not people will buy them is a different story, but at least they are being offered.
It’s kind of funny. In terms of produce, I had been thinking that reusable produce bags were the way to go. However maybe ditching the bags all together is the answer. There are small co-ops that sell organic produce. Maybe they deliver their veggies free of bags? Now wouldn’t that be cool? I’ll have to look into that.
